One Word Project (Bed)

I'm now starting on the new project which is the "One Word Project". So basically for this project, I'm given a random word and that word is like the theme for the project. The word that I've chosen is 'Bed' which isn't at all that interesting to me. I predict a lot of stitching and sewing work which in the past I dreaded doing, hopefully this time I'll enjoy it more. I did this project in the past once, and the word I chosen was 'Computer', it's the worst project that I've worked on, I just didn't have much motivation at that time. Recently as you may have seen from my last project, I did a little stitch work on my plushie doll which got me to learn 2 stitching techniques, I could probably use these stitch techniques again for this project.

These are two bed drawings that I've done so far. The first one is just a front cover page that I do for all my projects. The second one is a drawing of my "Dream Bed", which means what it means, it's a bed that I would love to have. To be more specific it's a bed space that I would love to have, I usually go downstairs into the living room which is usually cold to do my art work because I have no room in my room. My room is hared with my older brother which makes things too crowded for me up there.

Anyway, so I feel like if I carry on just doing drawings of different types of beds, it will get very boring for me so I've decided that I'd rather make things instead like pillows, cushions and quilts. I can tell this is going to be a very textile based project which I'm not really a fan of but I think it's about time I get more used to it.

Photoshop Colouring Practice

I've been planning to colour in this drawing for ages and now I've finally done it. This isn't actually for any project in college, I just did this for fun and practice. I think I'm getting better with using photoshop slowly, I'm happy with how this piece turned out the way it did.

Final Piece for People Theme

As you can tell from the title, this is my final piece. I drew out ten different cartoon heads using photoshop. I wanted each head to look like its own character. I actually got this idea from one of the posters that I have at my house, the oster had many more heads and they were all emoticon-like drawings. I like how colourful this piece is, theres lots of things to look at than just one single head. I would have wanted to include more heads but the deadline to hand in all work is too close which means I don't have the time to make more so I didn't.

Life drawing 2

I have done more life drawings. I can't really tell if I'm improving on them or not but it still seems very difficult to draw the model. I find it easier draw standing poses than crouching/sitting ones for some reason.

Chibi Characters

I find this pretty funny and it was also fun to make. I got this idea from fellow artists on Deviant Art so I figured that I would give it a try. I like how the characters interact with my fingers, I added flames and spikes to the pictures too just to make it a little more interesting.

This is a plushie doll of myself that I made with felt. I didn't use a sewing machine so I hand stitched everything, I learnt how to stitch by looking at Youtube videos. This took me quite a while to make, especially the hair part because that was really tedious. I painted the face with acrylic paints and then I outlined it with a black fine liner pen. I did try to make a red jacket but it failed, I did it too big so it wouldn't fit him. The only clothing I did is his red scarf which was made out of ribbon, the rest of him is naked.......I still like it though, it looks cute.

Portraits

These are portrait drawings of myself. I took a photo of myself and drew from it. The first drawing was started out with pencil and then went over with a blck biro. It looked better than how I thought it would've turned out so I'm pleased with it. The second image is an edited picture of the first image, I used photoshop to edit it. I used the same way of colouring that I usually do when I colour in my manga characters which is why it looks a little bit cartoony. I also added a pattern background to make it look more showy. I like how it turned out, my brothers say they rly look like me so I'm happy about them.

People

The second half of the project has arrived and so I had to pick a second theme for my work. I missed a week of work because I fell ill to a really terribel cold so I have to to work quicker and harder as usual. As you can tell from the title of this post, the second theme that I have chosen is People. The way I decided this theme is that I first made a brainstorm of the possible themes that were on the list and then I saw that I had the best ideas for People so I chose it. I am already into my final week for this project and I can say that I have made fair amounts of work so far.

I started out with drawing facial expressions first. I drew them in manga style insted of the realistic style because it's easier that way. I only drew three different expressions, Happy, sad and angry. I used different media for each drawing and I tried to use colours that fit well with the feeling of the picture. Since I've been put off from drawing, I thought this was a good warm up to get me ready for the other works that I will do later on for this project.

Deviant Art

A lot of inspiration that I get for my work are from a website called Deviant Art. Deviant Art is basically a huge art website for all the different kinds of artists around the world to share and admire eachothers artwork. I use it to see if anything catches my eye and give me ideas on my project work. I have made an account on it from 5 years ago so there are still some of my very old works up in my gallery. This makes it very easy to see how I have improved on my art skills in the past 5 years. I am mostly interested in drawing manga styled characters of my own creation, I started out using only traditional means but now I am trying to learn the digital method of working by using a program called Photoshop.

Mark Crilley

Mark Crilley is one of the most inspirational artist for me. He is a manga/comic artist which is why I find his drawing very interesting. I watch a lot of his youtube videos to learn more about how to draw manga. I find his techniques very easy to understand as he tells it in a very simple way. I think that if I never found his videos, my manga skills would not be as good as it is to this day so he really has helped me a lot. I have subscribed to his channel so that youtube keeps me up to date when he posts on new videos, watching them helps me improve on my dawing skills and it is also simply fun to watch. I also want to add that he has a great sense of humour which u can tell from his narrative talking which makes his videos all the more entertaining.
