This is what it was like when I entered into the Manchester art gallery. There are 3 floors.
The sculptures along the walls caught my eye first. They were of Centaurs which are mythical creatures with half human and half horse features. On all of them, they had part of the limbs chopped off like their legs, arms and even heads which I thought was interesting. I didn't see any sort of description next to these sculptures so I don't know what the story is behind them.
This is one of Raqib Shaw's works. Shaw's paintings were the most interesting pieces that I found at the gallery because they were so beautiful and eye catching. His pieces include a lot of fierce looking creatures which I thought would be good to look at since I'm working on mythology. He uses Oil, acrylic, enamel, glitter and rhinestones but you may not be able to tell because I took a poor quality photo...
Another one of Raqib Shaw's pieces.
Raqib Shaw also painted smaller paintings like this one which also uses the same media except this one had watercolours.
Another place I visited was the Whitworth museum which was so tiring to walk to. I had a quick look around because we had to get back to a certain place at a certain time. Nothing really caught my eye there so I didn't take any pictures of the artwork but I did just only have a quick look after all.
The last place I visited was a Chinese Arts Centre where I met an artist named Rosanne Robertson. It was very interesting how she applied sound to art, I never thought of such an idea. There were a variety of different object placed on a table and they were somehow linked to an amplifier that then produced a kind of eerie sounds. She graduated from the Manchester School of Art in 2009 and have since exhibited and performed in may galleries. She said that at first she was a painter and was going to stick with only painting but now she does all kinds of things which just goes to show you don't have to stick with what you want to do at first and that there are many other kinds of opportunities out in the world.
