3 Moments in Time

These 3 pieces of artwork contributed to the '3 Moments in Time' brief. I had to pick a well known story and illustrate 3 separate moments from that story without including any text. I used traditional media combined with Photoshop and a little photography to create all 3 images.
If you hadn't already guessed by now, the story I chose was 'Little Red Riding Hood'. As you can see, I put my own little twist to it by making the two most vulnerable characters as mini chibi versions of themselves whereas I made the stronger and more fierce characters larger.

Past Briefs

I made this little guy for the 'Hide a Secret' brief. The aim of the brief was to make something without having to draw on or use paper. The piece had to be creative and give a sense that a secret was being hidden. I made this out of a Pringles container, its meant to look like my face. :P The hair can open up and pieces of card with hidden secrets were placed inside. Nine of those secrets are fake and only one is true which gives context to the idea of hiding a secret.

This piece was for the 'Something beginning with A' brief. I had to choose something beginning with the letter A, in this case I chose an angel. I then was only allowed to use paper and nothing else to make the final art work. I did use a compass to poke at the paper to create the image, I'm pretty sure that was okay to do...

This one is for the 'Opposite' brief. Basically, I needed to make a piece that gave the sense of opposition by using only the colours of black and white. I crafted this piece with white paper and black card.

This is a double page spread for the '£1 draw' brief. I had to go into the Preston market and buy something for £1 or under and I bought a little horse trinket. I then had to draw it out from observation 100 times using different media. After I finished the drawings, I used them and edited them on Photoshop. I then included 99 horse breeds into the image because we also needed text.

Birthday Card Design

I designed this little birthday card for my friend, Lauren for her 19th birthday. I thought it would be better to make and draw a card for her rather than buy one because I am an illustration student after all. I enjoyed drawing the design and found it really fun to make. :)

Final Piece Portrait

This is the piece that my practitioner liked the most. My idea was to have a variety of 43 envelopes mounted together because my character had some sort of important link to writing 43 letters. I then drew the portrait of the character on top with a black biro pen since that is a writing pen and my character likely would have used this kind of pen. This took a while to finish as the whole thing was roughly A1 size. I like how it turned out although maybe I should've made it a bit more interesting by including things like stamps or strips of text from the written letters.

This is the second version. This one is basically the drawing you can see from the earlier post from my sketch book. I overlayed the image on top of the photographed image of the envelopes with adobe Photoshop. This piece isn't as good as the one above because it seems to be too lazily done, the portrait seems too young and it turned out a bit blurry when it got printed onto A3 paper.

Continuing on...

I've decided to carry on blogging after so long since my last post. Yaaaay.......... So for my return post I shall show you the current work that I'm doing so far at UCLAN. I am to draw a portrait of a fictional character from a book that I've read and that is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by Mark Haddon. The character that I have chosen to draw is Judy Boone (the mother) and I decided to use my friend Lauren as my reference model. Below are a few pencil drawings just for practice...
